Fixed Projector Placement on Walls
It may be confusing, if you have never used a projector and screen before, to know exactly where to mount your fixed projector screen on the wall. While many different online sites will give you specifics to help you calculate exactly how big your screen should be for optimum viewing, based on your projector and your room size, not all give details on how low to hang the screen from the wall.
A couple of things that needs to be taken into consideration include where your projector will be mounted and whether or not it will offer you the option to shift the lens. There are several models of projectors, such as the Panasonic AX200U or the Epson 720 that offer the lens shift option, though these may be a little more expensive than some other cheap projectors.
It is possible to tilt your projector up so that it hits the screen squarely, however if you do this you will also need to use the digital keystone correction option which may, however, end up lowering the resolution and brightness of the image.
It is far better to accurately calculate where your screen should hang in relation to your projector placement, as that will end up giving you the best image possible. When calculating this, it is important to remember that even if you hang your projector as flush as possible to the ceiling, the center of the lens is actually three to five inches below the ceiling, depending on which projector you use. The actual projection on the screen would then be somewhere from 15” to 20” below the ceiling.
If you are going to have too much difficulty mounting your fixed projector screen in the right place on the wall, you may want to instead stick to using an LCD, as that works fine at any placement. As you can see, it is important to thoroughly research these details prior to making your purchase as otherwise you may end up complicating your situation by not fully taking all factors into consideration.
